Okay so it’s not yet clear whether the English title will be SECRET REUNION or the literally translationed Korean title SWORN BROTHERS (the publicity has refered to both names), but it is clear that this new Jang Hun directed flick starring Song Kang-ho and Gang Dong-won (also commonly spelt Kang Dong-won, but his official website address is spelt as www.gangdongwon.com) has finished filming and is being prepared for an early 2010 domestic release. The film is expected to be the last for actor Gang Dong-won before he begins his National Service.
Song Kang-ho plays Lee Han-kyu – a man who has been kicked out of the National Intelligence Service because of his involvement in a gunfight in the centre of Seoul. Gang Dong-won is Song Ji-won – a North Korean spy who has been cut loose from his job. Not much else of the plot has been revealed other than the fact that the two men meet and ‘keep their former identities as enemies a secret from one another‘. Whoah! Sounds like MR & MRS SMITH right? Well, probably not, but the prospect of Song Kang-ho under director Jang Hun (the former assistant and student of director Kim Ki-duk, and whose recent ROUGH CUT has got some pretty good reviews) and teen favourite Gang Dong-won sounds pretty good. Okay, so almost anything with Song Kang-ho will be of interest, but this one sounds particularly interesting.
So while there’s little to give us a clue as to what exactly the film is about, it’s probably got its fair amount of action as on wrapping the film Gang Dong-won was happy to say ‘We’re fortunate to have filmed for four months safely without any accidents.’
Hopefully a trailer will be emerging soon, until then feast your eyes on these typically moody pics.
Hey, look, Song Kang-ho looks hassled and he’s holding a gun…
