News: Tales of two Kims, a birthday and some trailers…

Sadly it’s been a quieter week on the site than I was hoping for – this time due to illness – but at least there’s been two new reviews posted: firstly a look at Park Chan-wook’s quirky rom-com effort I’M A CYBORG, BUT THAT’S OK and secondly a look from behind the sofa at Na Hong-jin’s remarkable thriller  THE CHASER.

Luckily there’s been a little bit more happening on the news and trailers front…

Palisades Tartan double-bills…

Following on from their recent twinned release of the two Park Chan-wook films JOINT SECURITY AREA and I’M A CYBORG BUT THAT’S OK, Palisades Tartan have announced releases of Kim Ji-woon flicks A BITTERSWEET LIFE and A TALE OF TWO SISTERS in a two disc set, and Kim-Ki-duk’s SAMARITAN GIRL and THE ISLE. Hmmm. Fish-hooks…

It’s great to see these flicks back on UK shelves, and even better at these 2-disc prices. Now you’ve just got to decide whether to plump for these or the blu-rays…

Impact Magazine celebrates it’s 18th birthday…

Nearly two decades celebrating the best of action and asian cinema, Impact Magazine is eighteen years old this month. Celebrating in style the big issue boasts THIRST on its cover – and an exclusive interview with director Park Chan-wook.

Other non-Korean-related good stuff includes a profile of upcoming director Chee Keong Cheung and looks at LAW ABIDING CITIZEN and HARRY BROWN.

Surely somewhere in this issue they’ll also be able to shoe-horn in Mr Jean-Claude Van Damme?

It’s sort of an Impact tradition you know…

New trailers worth checking out..

SECRET (Yoon Jae-goo / 2009) Previously known as SAVING MY WIFE, this dark looking thriller stars Cha Seung-won as a detective who thinks he might have a problem when he finds evidence of his wife at a murder scene – and he decides to start covering things up… Unfortunately the trailer has no subs, but you get the idea…

NO MERCY (Kim Hyeong-jun / 2009) Any new film starring Sol Kyung-gu or Ryoo Seung-beom is worth a look and this one’s got them both in, so must be worth checking out. FilmSmash.com have got a load of the posters on their forum and if you can read korean then check out the official site here.
